International Yoga Day
From the power of intention to the alignment of body and soul, yoga practice is a great complement to the spiritual and character building rituals of Jewish life. On International Yoga Day (Thursday, June 21), Jewish yogis from around Dallas will gather together for a special yoga session to gratefully celebrate the balance, depth, and sweetness that we have gained through our practice.
Join beloved yoga teacher DEBBI K. LEVY, of Transformation Yoga, at Congregation Shearith Israel for a practice that will elevate your ideals, stretch your body, and invigorate your spirit. Rabbi Shira Wallach of Congregation Shearith Israel will introduce the event and, during an elegant kosher vegetarian dinner, Rabbi Mike Friedman of Nafshi: Souled on Wellness will share Jewish philosophical insights.
The ancient sage בן זומא, Shimon Ben Zoma, is quoted in the Talmud asking and answering four questions that relate as much to yoga as to practices of Judiasm:
"WHO IS WISE?" "One who learns from all."
"WHO IS STRONG?" "One who controls their impulses."
"WHO IS RICH?" "One who is content with what they have."
"WHO IS HONORABLE?" "One who honors others."
As Jews and yogis, we strive to achieve true wisdom, powerfully strengthen ourselves, acquire lasting wealth, and lead honorable, meaningful lives.
